Talk: Shin'a'in

Is there any actual text within the books stating or indicating that all of the the Shin'a'in clans are specifically analogous to the Native American tribes, or is it speculation?  The descriptions of them just as easily match a number of other historic (or even current) ethnic groups, including the ancient Celts, the Roma 'gypsies', and nomadic tribes from the Eurasian Steppes (at least one of which is still known for individuals that raise & bond with birds of prey).
