Sheran was a gryphon in Urtho's armies during the Mage Wars. She was a member of the Sixth Wing. She had been one of the gryphons captured just before Stelvi Pass was overrun. She was chained awaiting pinioning and further torture by Ma'ar's forces, when she was rescued by Third Wing. She was badly scarred, both mentally and physically, and could not stand to be restrained for any reason.
When Sheran was later brought in delirious with a lacerated underbelly, Winterhart (not knowing her history) tried to restrain her. It was how Winterheart threw out her back.
