Rethaire was the herbalist in the mercenary company Idra's Sunhawks. He had Dee and another young apprentice to assist him. The worst injuries were handled by Kethry's sword Need, or by the Healer-Priest Tresti with the assistance of the two hedge-mages in the company. The lesser injuries, including sliced limbs and broken bones, went to Rethaire and his cadre.
Rethaire didn't have any Healing Gift or magic, but he did have an impressive knowledge of herbs and anatomy. He routinely mixed up a blue-green powder that acted as an antiseptic in wounds. The Sunhawks lost fewer people than other companies because of his talents.
