Firesong k'Treva is a Tayledras Healing Adept of unusual strength, and a descendant of Herald-Mage Vanyel. He says that he has been working magic since he could walk, and his hair turned white (from working with nodes) before he was ten years old.[1] He is known for his extremely powerful and innovative magic, as well as his beauty and flamboyance.[2] He is fairly arrogant and never lacks for admirers. It is not until the expedition to Hardorn that he really begins to feel sympathy for people. Before, all of his energy and emotion had been invested in Healing the land.[3]

He first met Elspeth and Skif when he was called in to help the mages of k'Sheyna deal with their rogue heartstone. His creativity and abilities as a Healing-Adept were vital to plan and take steps to get the stone under control. He deliberately shattered the stone, preparing it as if it were a Gate - a proto-Gate. However, when they attempted to guide the energy of the heartstone to the new Vale, it was "stolen" by Vanyel and used to power a new heartstone in Haven. Meanwhile, the mage Mornelithe Falconsbane was defeated and lost in the Void between the Gates, which everyone assumed meant he died.

When the threat of Falconsbane was resolved, Firesong traveled with Elspeth, Darkwind, and the gryphons Treyvan and Hydona to Valdemar. There he intended to train Darkwind, Elspeth and other mages. When it became obvious that Ancar was going to attempt to conquer Valdemar regardless of the cost, and that Falconsbane was with him, it became necessary to rid the world of them both. Firesong went with a team to Hardorn to defeat them. On the way, the group learned that Falconsbane was actually possessing the body of young Shin'a'in, An'desha, who was still conscious deep inside him. Firesong permanently destroyed the spirit of Ma'ar that had possessed so many bodies over the years.

When they returned to Valdemar, Firesong endeavored to train An'desha in the use of his magic, and a relationship formed between them. He had difficulties understanding the kind of soul healing that An'desha needed after his possession by Ma'ar. Firesong became jealous when An'desha formed a platonic friendship with the Sunpriest Karal, and they drifted apart.

Firesong and An'desha both worked to develop a solution to the Mage Storms, and they went to the Dhorisha Plains, where they battled the Mage Storms. Firesong was badly injured in the magical working that contained the Final Storm, leaving him burned and scarred. He was cared for by the kestra'chern, Silverfox, and they formed a longstanding relationship. Later, he trained Darian Firkin and worked with him to create k'Valdemar Vale.

Bondbird[]

Firesong2

His bondbird is a white firebird, Aya. As he is unique, Firesong had to have bred him using magic. Since most Hawkbrothers bond with raptors, this tends to set him apart as much as his famous beauty and highly exotic and intricate costumes.

In the series[]

Firesong appears in the following works:
